DVD Movie Glitches on NUON DVD Players

All DVD players can potentially glitch up on certain DVDs, and NUON players are no different. Below is a list of DVDs known to have difficulties on certain NUON DVD players. Found one that's not on the list? Email the symptoms and solution/workaround (if there is one) to dvdglitches@nuon-dome.com and we'll add it to the list to help everyone out.

Blade II

Disc 2 of this set may glitch up on certain video sequences. To get around this, if the video being played appears corrupt/choppy (usually jumbled boxed squares) and the audio either stutters or is missing, try the following: begin playing the problem video, once it starts, hit the 'stop' button (don't turn off the player), wait a bit, and then hit 'play' again. The video should play again where you left off and it usually plays correctly.

Drawing Flies

There is a problem with this disc that is specific to NUON DVD players in that NUON reads the chapter points as key commands and tries to activate --pausing the disc. You can work around the problem by changing chapters through the NUON GUI. For the Samsung DVD-N501, hit stop and then press the Menu key on the remote. Select "Movie" from the list and then highlight the "Title" option. Press enter and it will prompt for you to enter a title number to go to. Enter the number on the keypad and press enter and it will start playing that section of the disc.

This is also an easy way to access all the hidden content on the disc as well!

High Crimes

This disc experiences the same problems as Shallow Hal, in that it locks up at the FBI warning screen. Both discs are from 20th Century Fox. Coincidence, or some type of copy protection scheme or manufacturing flaw that's causing problems? Who knows, but this report came from a user with a Toshiba SD2300 so it's not strictly a Samsung issue.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

Much like Blade II, Disc 2 of this set may glitch up on certain video sequences.

Jackie Brown

Yet another Disc 2 that has problems on the N501. Can be resolved the same way as others, just follow these instructions: To get around this, if the video being played appears corrupt/choppy (usually jumbled boxed squares) and the audio either stutters or is missing, try the following: begin playing the problem video, once it starts, hit the 'stop' button (don't turn off the player), wait a bit, and then hit 'play' again. The video should play again where you left off and it usually plays correctly.

Planet of the Apes

There was a bug introduced in the current DVD production of Planet of the Apes discs. The link to the NUON features from the special features menu is broken. Click here for a full page of instructions and illustrations showing how to access these features if you have a disc with the broken links.

Pulp Fiction

Yet another Disc 2 that has problems on the N501. Can be resolved the same way as others, just follow these instructions: To get around this, if the video being played appears corrupt/choppy (usually jumbled boxed squares) and the audio either stutters or is missing, try the following: begin playing the problem video, once it starts, hit the 'stop' button (don't turn off the player), wait a bit, and then hit 'play' again. The video should play again where you left off and it usually plays correctly.

Shallow Hal

This DVD will lock up at the FBI warning screen on certain NUON DVD players. The problem has yet to be pinpointed, but could either be a firmware issue, or a problem with the manufacturing of the DVD's themselves. As a result of this uncertainty, a work-around isn't available at this point. Take a look at this discussion on the NUON-Dome forums for reports from those who didn't problems and those who weren't so lucky.
